"If our devotion is to the cause of humanity, we will be quickly defeated and broken-hearted, since we will often be confronted with a great deal of ingratitude from other people. But if we are motivated by our love for God, no amount of ingratitude will be able to hinder us from serving one another."

Kitchen Makeover - Getting Started

A few months ago, I took down the white and brass ceiling fan because I just couldn't take it anymore.  I had originally planned to do the kitchen reno when we first bought the house.  But the day of settlement, Shawn decided that the entire house needed to be sprayed with Kilz and then painted.  A smoker lived here and upon our final walk through, Shawn noticed the smoke odor like never before.  So much for my kitchen reno plans, huh?  But, I'm so thankful despite the late start.  Had it not smelled so badly, I probably wouldn't have had the majority of the rooms painted!  We have slowly done remodeling here and there.  But for now the kitchen has taken front stage.  Some people liked the color scheme that was here.  Not me.  Not a day went by in the last year that I didn't scheme and dream about all that I would eventually do in this room.
Here's a look at the beginning of the project.

Before
February 16th I begin to paint.  Buh-bye rust/orange ceiling and walls!

Oh yes, that's better.  Color was mixed by Sherwin-Williams to match Behr's Aloha, which I chose some time ago when I spotted an aqua colored Kitchen Aid Mixer  at Target.  I knew I had found my color!  It's an Egg Shell finish.

Perhaps you can see the wall lamp.  Ugh.  Again, not my taste.  I purchased a very inexpensive chrome finish fixture.  I just happened to still have a beautiful crystal-like globe I had gotten on sale at Lowe's a year ago, but hadn't yet found the perfect spot.

I was determined to allow this project to majorly interfere with our everyday living and dwelling in the kitchen.   Obviously, with the three boys and Shawn, it's a fairly busy hub of the house.  A little at a time, I'd plug away, painting.  Always tucking supplies in a corner of another room until needed.  I hadn't originally planned on painting the ceiling, but since she had, I thought why not?  There isn't much wall space for the color to really pop and with the cabinets soon to be white, I thought it would be a good choice.  I'm happy I did so!
