"If our devotion is to the cause of humanity, we will be quickly defeated and broken-hearted, since we will often be confronted with a great deal of ingratitude from other people. But if we are motivated by our love for God, no amount of ingratitude will be able to hinder us from serving one another."

birthday letter

elijah awoke groggy and sleepy this morning.
he pulled back the covers to reveal a huge marker smear stain.
apologetically, he said, "i'm sorry, momma.  i accidentally, got marker on my sheets when i was making you something last night."
i'm so thankful that this time, even before he spoke up with an explanation, my response was one of grace. i would've had destroyed his little spirit of kindness and honesty had i gone off about the stain.
stain, schmain. you should read the letter i got!!

(here it is grammar and spellings included)

Dear Mom,
You are the best mom in the whole world.  You are also the prettiest.  Happy birthday mom.  Just so you know you don't look like 47.  You look like your in your 20's.  Thank you for everything you do for us.  I really appreciate it.  Mom I wish you didn't have to die so I could live with you forever.  Oh and whenever you ask us how you look when you go somwhere you always look pretty.  I love you.
 Your son,
Elijah Shay (in cursive)

be still my beating heart. he melts me.
should the Lord bless him with a wife one day, she will get one heck of husband.

This letter is the equivalent of...Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: (Proverbs 31:28 NIV). You ARE BLESSED!!!

Happy Birthday, Lisa! What a guy you have there--no doubt due to the training of his papa. I thank God for the blessing he's given me through our friendship. May He grant you many more "happys" from birthday to birthday.
