"If our devotion is to the cause of humanity, we will be quickly defeated and broken-hearted, since we will often be confronted with a great deal of ingratitude from other people. But if we are motivated by our love for God, no amount of ingratitude will be able to hinder us from serving one another."

knight ceremony - elijah

this actually took place last may in our backyard in wake forest.
shawn reminded me some time ago that i had never blogged about it.
goodness sakes - i'm so sorry, elijah.
well, without further ado, i bring to you the knight ceremony of
elijah lewis shay

taken from the book "Raising a Modern Day Knight" by Robert Lewis, shawn invited men that he values and holds dear to speak into elijah's life that day about becoming a man of God.
you may recall that he held a similar ceremony for joseph at the age of 8 years old a couple of years ago.
it starts off with a boy who is now eight.
mixed with a dad who's passionate about boys becoming men
and what exactly that looks like from a biblical perspective.
then, add in a few more good men
and a few more.
and you got yourself one heck of a knight ceremony!

billy morrison
david ellis
joseph b shay

each one taking time to prepare a message for elijah
to speak the truth of God's holy word into his young life.  drawing out the inner man within.
love this part of being their mom.  i get to watch in awe of their daddy's passion
to honor God and raise up men.
wait. before you get any funky ideas...
we ain't perfect.  we mess up, discipline in anger sometimes, yell, take offense,
misunderstand, lack compassion on mercy.  get my drift?
but we are trying to raise these boys in the way we believe God would have us do so.
shawn, I'm so thankful for you.  your heart. your sacrifice. your love. your leadership.
we are blessed.

some of my favorite moments from this day are below
the hug after joseph shared with elijah
titus sharing about getting a homerun for elijah the game elijah sat out due to a concussion.
rich, walking elijah around our yard while shawn read aloud from the bible.

shawn took time to talk to elijah about me and my role in his life right now.
shawn then gave me an opportunity i wasn't expecting...
to share from heart with elijah.
daddy, his leader, teaching him the ways of a man
 and His people gathered around...
and prayed.  prayed for a boy as he becomes a man.
a man who hates sin and runs into righteous.
a man who doesn't quit but runs into the battle.

elijah lew, i love you my little man.  you are so very, very precious to me.
xoxo, your woman to love - mom
